Daymond John Shark Tank Superstar To Headline MIC 2020

Attendees of this year’s Military Influencer Conference will get access to “The People’s Shark.” 

Global entrepreneur Daymond John, who stars on ABC’s 4-time award-winning show Shark Tank, will deliver the keynote for MIC 2020 in San Antonio, Texas. In its 4th year, the premiere military event connects business owners, influencers, creatives, executives, and leaders who want to collaborate and take their careers to the next level. 

Founder Curtez Riggs says the introduction of John to the community is a first-of-its-kind opportunity. “My goal has been to create a low-cost event with high-quality speakers. Securing Daymond opens the door for us to target other successful CEO’s, so I’m excited for what’s to come,” Riggs said. 

MIC 2020 is a four-day venue that includes a number of interactive opportunities, workshops and breakout sessions. John, who turned his fashion company into a $6 billion venture, is no stranger to the trials of growing a startup after launching FUBU with a $40 budget. He represents a key focus at the heart of MIC: mentorship. 

“We searched for an entrepreneurial leader with an existing connection to our community. Each year, we strive to bring in a speaker outside of the military bubble. Daymond has served as a mentor to Charlynda (Scales) since 2018 and after watching her growth over the last few years I couldn’t think of a better civilian leader to educate and empower us,” Riggs explained. 

Scales, an Air Force veteran, is the owner of Mutt’s Sauce — a specialty sauce company based on a secret family recipe passed down from her grandfather. 

In addition to being a TV superstar and successful entrepreneur, John is a branding guru, motivational speaker, and New York Times best-selling author. He recently released a new book called PowerShift that focuses on the pillars of what MIC was founded on, Riggs says. 

“He’s a Shark, so obviously access to capital is a major pain point for the majority of our entrepreneurs. In the book he discusses shifting the power by leveraging the three prongs of influence, being reputation, negotiation, and relationships. This is central to everything MIC stands for,” he said.

Life in a military family is deeply rewarding, but rife with challenges, too.

Today, over 45,000 nonprofits in the U.S. focus on addressing the unique challenges of our community. But there’s room for so many more military influencers to join the social good initiative and help those in need.

A JAG Officer with the California State Military Reserve, Antoinette has long been passionate about serving homeless and at-risk veterans and service members, and she’s dedicated her career to that end. She co-founded Veterans Legal Institute with the mission of providing free legal assistance to homeless, at-risk, disabled and low-income service members, eradicating barriers to housing, healthcare, education, and employment.

And Chaunte, having grown up in a military family and serving over fifteen years in the Air Force; she’s determined and dedicated to supporting veterans and families in transition. At CMA, she leverages her deep understanding of military culture and experience to provide community-based transition assistance programs, designed to train, prepare, and educate transitioning service members, and veterans.

Founders & Innovators: The Track for Serious Entrepreneurs

This year’s MIC is bursting with resources for entrepreneurs. So many, we needed to spread out what we’re offering across a couple of days, in a track called Founders and Innovators.

Think of this track as a two-day-long celebration full of blue-sky thinking and opportunities. At Founders & Innovators you’ll have access to mentorship sessions with established innovators; networking events with like-minded founders; and plenty of workshops, panels, and talks led by inspiring presenters…all of which will empower you to supercharge your business.

Perhaps even more exciting are the two pitch competitions happening at this year’s Founders & Innovators:

The Great American Military Entrepreneur Challenge

The StreetShares Foundation is an organization that inspires, educates, and supports military business owners. They will be hosting The Great American Military Entrepreneur Challenge during MIC’s Founders and Innovators track.

Here’s how the competition works. Prior to the conference, qualifying entrepreneurs submit a pitch video and application. StreetShares will then select 32 finalists (16 veterans, 16 military spouses), who will be featured on the StreetShares website. The public votes to determine which entrepreneurs move on to pitch at MIC. And at the conference, the judges will listen carefully to each presenter’s pitch.

The team will award the entrepreneurs that they believe are best poised for success with cash prizes totaling $25,000.

All participants who present at Founders and Innovators will receive a heavily discounted license for Hubspot software. And in addition to the biggest cash prize, the first-place winner will receive a free, six-month subscription to Scale Factor’s Get Started Plan, media interviews, and profiles featured on We Are the Mighty.

Great American Military Entrepreneur Challenge

The 7th Annual Veteran Shark Tank – Regional Qualifier

The Veteran Shark Tank is a pitch competition created by the Greater Philadelphia Veterans Network. It began in 2012 with a mission to promote veteran entrepreneurs who are launching or expanding a business.

This year, veteran entrepreneurs will pitch their business ideas in one of four cities before a panel of veteran sharks—successful veterans and military spouses who have made a name for themselves in the military influencer community. The winners in each city will get an all-expenses-paid trip to the Finals in Philadelphia, where they will pitch in front of a second panel of judges—including Curtez Riggs, Mark Rockefeller, Dan Alarik, Justin Constantine, Ericka Webster, and Jerry Flanaganfor a $50,000 prize.

A Look Inside MIC’s Opening-Day Workshops

The ultimate icebreaker, a thoughtfully-organized workshop teaches you actionable skills while inviting you into an engaging conversation with the facilitator and your fellow attendees.
