Daymond John Shark Tank Superstar To Headline MIC 2020

Attendees of this year’s Military Influencer Conference will get access to “The People’s Shark.”

Global entrepreneur Daymond John, who stars on ABC’s 4-time award-winning show Shark Tank, will deliver the keynote for MIC 2020 in San Antonio, Texas. In its 4th year, the premiere military event connects business owners, influencers, creatives, executives, and leaders who want to collaborate and take their careers to the next level.

Founder Curtez Riggs says the introduction of John to the community is a first-of-its-kind opportunity. “My goal has been to create a low-cost event with high-quality speakers. Securing Daymond opens the door for us to target other successful CEO’s, so I’m excited for what’s to come,” Riggs said.

MIC 2020 is a four-day venue that includes a number of interactive opportunities, workshops and breakout sessions. John, who turned his fashion company into a $6 billion venture, is no stranger to the trials of growing a startup after launching FUBU with a $40 budget. He represents a key focus at the heart of MIC: mentorship.

“We searched for an entrepreneurial leader with an existing connection to our community. Each year, we strive to bring in a speaker outside of the military bubble. Daymond has served as a mentor to Charlynda (Scales) since 2018 and after watching her growth over the last few years I couldn’t think of a better civilian leader to educate and empower us,” Riggs explained.

Scales, an Air Force veteran, is the owner of Mutt’s Sauce — a specialty sauce company based on a secret family recipe passed down from her grandfather.

In addition to being a TV superstar and successful entrepreneur, John is a branding guru, motivational speaker, and New York Times best-selling author. He recently released a new book called PowerShift that focuses on the pillars of what MIC was founded on, Riggs says.

“He’s a Shark, so obviously access to capital is a major pain point for the majority of our entrepreneurs. In the book he discusses shifting the power by leveraging the three prongs of influence, being reputation, negotiation, and relationships. This is central to everything MIC stands for,” he said.

The bookPowerShift is currently available wherever books are sold. for pre-order at Penguin Random House. (Release Date: March 10, 2020 by Currency)

Military Influencer will be held September 23-26, 2020 at the Marriott Rivercenter in San Antonio, Texas. Early bird tickets are now available online via Eventbrite.

5 Reasons to Attend The 2019 Military Influencer Conference

There’s something about a conference. Maybe it’s the swag. Maybe it’s the sessions. Maybe it’s the thrill of ordering new business cards and finally meeting your online heroes in real life. Likely, it’s some combination of them all. At a good conference, you can’t walk into the main space without hearing the excitement. But when you walk into a great conference, not only do you hear it, you can feel it.

This year, the one conference that has to be on your radar and your calendar is the Military Influencer Conference in Washington D.C., from September 8-10. After the inaugural conference brought together over 700 veteran and military spouse influencers in Dallas last year, this year’s MIC promises to not only match last year’s magic but to top it.

Here are our top 5 reasons you can’t miss MICDC:

The Mission.

As most incredible things begin, the Military Influencer Conference started with one person and a vision. Founder Curtez Riggs wanted to connect the different corners of the military space, from the business owners to the bloggers, the freelancers to the designers, inclusive of veterans and military spouses.

He knew the passion behind the entrepreneurs and the savvy of the content creators, and the power in bringing them together. And so he did. The result in Orlando was an extraordinary exchange of ideas with promise only to build, and MICDC will do just that.

Attendees will learn how to grow their brands, no matter what stage it’s in, and how to incorporate giving back to our community into their business model.

The Expertise.

Often times at a conference, you’ll see one or two headliners and then sessions that warrant more of a coffee break than continued interest. That is anything but the case for MICDC. While keynotes like Pat Flynn of Smart Passive Income, Colin Wayne of Redline Steel and Briana Keilar of CNN should be enough to draw you in, there is a tremendous depth of expertise in the breakout sessions.

With tactical takeaways like how to develop e-courses, social media strategies, financing your business, launching a freelance career and so much more, you’ll be learning from and interacting with the best of the best. It’s rare to have such breadth of experience in your network, let alone within arm’s reach.

From the MIC website:

With more than 30 educational sessions and a wide range of dynamic, inspiring speakers, this event gives digital entrepreneurs an unprecedented opportunity to find the resources and connections needed to grow your online business. Time and time again, you’ll be introduced to bold new ideas and proven strategies for both short and long-term growth.

The Opportunities.

Sure, you’ll meet so many incredible people, but if that isn’t reason enough, MIC Orlando could forever change your business. StreetShares, who has partnered with Sam Adams Brewing the America Dream, will be announcing three Veterans Small Business Awards, for a total of $25,000.

There will be a live pitch competition where succinctly explaining your business model could garner investments, and an opportunity for service organizations to have a roundtable with Veterans Florida. We don’t want to put the pressure on you and say these are “once in a lifetime” chances, but, well … let’s call a spade a spade: these are once in a lifetime chances.

  1. The Network. Some of the best takeaways from a conference aren’t in what you learn, but in who you meet. MIC Orlando has some of the biggest names in the military space, and not only are those folks attending, they’re there to connect, to collaborate, to network. That’s right: They want to meet you! Don’t miss the opportunity to share a drink and your dreams with some of the most prominent influencers, who are genuinely interested in what you’re doing and how they can help elevate you. In addition to the impressive speakers and fellow attendees, the sponsors of MIC Orlando are second to none. With companies like USAA, Comcast, Military By Owner, GovX and Crosby Marketing sponsoring the event, you’ll have an unprecedented opportunity to talk about partnerships, branding, and so much more.
  1. The Location. Honestly, we’d attend MIC 2018 no matter where it was being held after last year’s experience, but the fact that it’s at a world-renowned resort certainly doesn’t hurt. We’re guessing a lot of collaborations will happen over drinks at the pool, on the golf course, and at one of the resort’s many lounges or restaurants. With pristine grounds, extravagant amenities and beautiful accommodations, the Rosen Shingle Creek is reason enough to go. Add on the incredible benefits of MIC Orlando, and it becomes a “can’t miss.”

We know you won’t regret buying your ticket to MIC Orlando, but you might regret if you don’t. You’re worth the investment. We can’t wait to see you in Florida.

Calling All Military Real Estate Agents & Brokers!

Military families move often, and it’s not rare for them to face short-notice PCS orders that require them to relocate in a blink. Real estate professionals who get that—plus, of course, the nuances of VA homebuying and selling—are more likely to serve the military community successfully.

With that in mind, for this year’s conference, we at MIC designed a comprehensive educational track called Agents & Brokers. Sponsored by Caliber Home Loans, with programming created by the MilHousing Network and PCS Grades, this track is a not-to-miss opportunity. It was designed specifically for real estate agents and brokers who want to learn the ins and outs of military moves and working for this unique market.

Here’s how the two-day track will unfold…

On Day 1, established real estate pros and military influencers will lead dynamic sessions on military consumer topics. They’ll cover the process of VA buying and selling; how to become a landlord; and how to start a PCS-proof career in real estate—either as an agent, lender, or supporting worker. What’s more, there’ll be a session just for creative professionals and small businesses on how to effectively position their services to work with the real estate industry.

On Day 2, our panelists will continue to lead sessions, this time covering vital information for realtors and lenders. Specifically, they’ll educate attendees on the VA, and share the marketing strategies that agents and brokers need in order to draw more VA clients. And no one’s going to want to miss Century 21’s Todd Hetherington—he’ll be sharing his astonishing journey from graduating from West Point to leading a multi-million-dollar real estate brokerage.

Sessions will be emceed by Todd Hetherington and Lindsey Litton. And each session will feature 3–4 amazing panelists, including Kelly Hasbach, Todd Ernst, Kate Christofides, and Florent Groberg.

September is right around the corner, so to secure your spot and connect with these insanely knowledgeable speakers, be sure to register for the MIC today.

Write Something That Sticks: The Track for Content Creators at MIC

It’s been proven that consumers are more likely to engage with your brand if you’re offering them excellent content.

But every day, writers are overwhelming the web with more and more content; the “rules” of digital marketing are constantly changing…as are the qualities that define what an “excellent” piece of content looks like.

That’s why it’s important to keep abreast of the latest content creation tools and techniques, to help you write something that catches the eye of your intended audience and moves them to action. If you’re in the military community and are interested in absorbing those techniques to get your business ahead of the game, we’d love to have you participate in the Content Creators track at this year’s MIC.

In this track, successful digital content creators will be giving talks and leading breakout sessions, exploring those actionable ideas, tips, and strategies that will help you determine what you need to do to stand out among the tsunami of existing content out there. You’ll gain exposure to people who specialize in everything from social media to email marketing to blogging and beyond. And you’ll have the chance to share what you’re learning with fellow content creators at the conference.

Network with Social Entrepreneurs & Non-Profit Leaders Serving the Military Community at MIC

Life in a military family is deeply rewarding, but rife with challenges, too.

Today, over 45,000 nonprofits in the U.S. focus on addressing the unique challenges of our community. But there’s room for so many more military influencers to join the social good initiative and help those in need.

So here at MIC, to inspire sustainable, measurable solutions for our community, we created a track for this year’s conference called Social Impact. The track will feature dynamic breakout sessions and networking opportunities revolving around nonprofits and social entrepreneurship, giving you the opportunity to exchange ideas about how to resolve today’s unmet needs of veterans and their families.

We’re so excited to have incredible thought leaders who live and breathe social impact join us for this track. Meet two of them: Antoinette Balta, co-founder and executive director of Veterans Legal Institute, and Chaunte Myers, CEO of Centurion Military Alliance (CMA).

A JAG Officer with the California State Military Reserve, Antoinette has long been passionate about serving homeless and at-risk veterans and service members, and she’s dedicated her career to that end. She co-founded Veterans Legal Institute with the mission of providing free legal assistance to homeless, at-risk, disabled and low-income service members, eradicating barriers to housing, healthcare, education, and employment.

And Chaunte, having grown up in a military family and serving over fifteen years in the Air Force; she’s determined and dedicated to supporting veterans and families in transition. At CMA, she leverages her deep understanding of military culture and experience to provide community-based transition assistance programs, designed to train, prepare, and educate transitioning service members, and veterans.

If you want to meet these visionaries and others and become a catalyst for positive change in the military community, we’d love it if you joined us! Buy your MIC ticket today for access to the Social Impact track and so much more.

Founders & Innovators: The Track for Serious Entrepreneurs

This year’s MIC is bursting with resources for entrepreneurs. So many, we needed to spread out what we’re offering across a couple of days, in a track called Founders and Innovators.

Think of this track as a two-day-long celebration full of blue-sky thinking and opportunities. At Founders & Innovators you’ll have access to mentorship sessions with established innovators; networking events with like-minded founders; and plenty of workshops, panels, and talks led by inspiring presenters…all of which will empower you to supercharge your business.

Perhaps even more exciting are the two pitch competitions happening at this year’s Founders & Innovators:

The Great American Military Entrepreneur Challenge

The StreetShares Foundation is an organization that inspires, educates, and supports military business owners. They will be hosting The Great American Military Entrepreneur Challenge during MIC’s Founders and Innovators track.

Here’s how the competition works. Prior to the conference, qualifying entrepreneurs submit a pitch video and application. StreetShares will then select 32 finalists (16 veterans, 16 military spouses), who will be featured on the StreetShares website. The public votes to determine which entrepreneurs move on to pitch at MIC. And at the conference, the judges will listen carefully to each presenter’s pitch.

The team will award the entrepreneurs that they believe are best poised for success with cash prizes totaling $25,000.

All participants who present at Founders and Innovators will receive a heavily discounted license for Hubspot software. And in addition to the biggest cash prize, the first-place winner will receive a free, six-month subscription to Scale Factor’s Get Started Plan, media interviews, and profiles featured on We Are the Mighty.

The deadline to apply is August 11 at midnight EDT. You can learn more about the competition and application details here:

The 7th Annual Veteran Shark Tank – Regional Qualifier

The winners in each city will get an all-expenses-paid trip to the Finals in Philadelphia, where they will pitch in front of a second panel of judges—including Curtez Riggs, Mark Rockefeller, Dan Alarik, Justin Constantine, Ericka Webster, and Jerry Flanaganfor a $50,000 prize.

A Look Inside MIC’s Opening-Day Workshops

The ultimate icebreaker, a thoughtfully-organized workshop teaches you actionable skills while inviting you into an engaging conversation with the facilitator and your fellow attendees.

So we decided to kick off Day 1 of the MIC with four of them.

You read that right. We’re giving all MIC attendees access to four pre-conference workshops taking place on Sunday, September 8 from 1–4 pm. (Yes, even before we dive into the MIC orientation session and the Mighty Talks.)

Led by the thought-leaders who are running top-performing online and veteran-owned businesses, these workshops are designed to do a few things. Get you pumped for what’s in store at the conference, for one, and get you in the mindset of boosting your skillset and networking with the incredible military community for three days. Best of all, you’ll leave these workshops with content and insights that you can immediately begin using to benefit your brand.

Intrigued? Here’s a sneak peek at one of the workshops, led by Dennis Yu from the business marketing and strategy group Blitzmetrics.
