StreetShares, Inc. Director of Investor Relations Mel Levey is driven to serve, a desire ignited in response to the terror attacks on 9/11. He began his military service following graduation from West Point, serving as an officer in the U.S. Army. As a platoon leader in Baghdad during the Iraqi “Surge”, and later during other deployments to Northern Iraq and Southern Afghanistan, he witnessed first-hand the incredible feats that motivated people can achieve when they work with others and for others.
Upon leaving the Army, he ran for the U.S. House of Representatives in his home district in the San Joaquin Valley of California, fighting to increase education and economic opportunities for residents of one of the poorest districts in the country. Following stints as a high school teacher and an analyst with the Bipartisan Policy Center’s National Security Group, he joined KippsDeSanto & Co., an investment bank in the Washington, D.C. area focused on providing comprehensive financial advisory services to companies in the middle market of the aerospace, defense, and government services industries. Since becoming a member of the StreetShares team, Mel has led the effort to expand the impact of StreetShares’ signature investment product, Veteran Business Bonds, in service of StreetShares’ mission to become the trusted digital finance partner for veteran-owned and main street small businesses across America.
Mel holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point and a Master of Business Administration from Georgetown University. He is an active member of the American Legion and a supporter of the Rock Creek Conservancy and Capital Area Food Bank, among other organizations.
